Robert J. Lerma, MS, ACHE, Chief Executive Officer
Robert served the last four years as CEO for Austin Lakes Hospital, and the three years prior as Director of Business Development. Before Austin Lakes Hospital, Lerma worked as a Clinician for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office; and before that, as a Police Officer in California. Robert holds his Masters of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from California Lutheran University and his Bachelor of Science in Sociology from California State University in Northridge. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Psychological Association, Texas Psychological Association, Capital Area Psychological Association, and Capital of Texas Counseling Association.
Denise Curran, MBA, Chief Financial Officer
Denise joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after serving as Controller for Seton Medical Center Harker Heights over the past eight years. Denise earned her Masters of Business Administration from Tarleton State University and her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the University of Phoenix. Denise is currently a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Denise holds previous memberships in the Women in Leadership Committee of the Temple Chamber of Commerce and also the American Payroll Association.
Shawn Larabie, MSN, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, Chief Nursing Officer
Shawn joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after serving as Chief Nursing Officer at San Antonio Behavioral Healthcare Hospital. Shawn earned his Masters of Nursing, Masters of Business Administration, and Bachelors of Nursing from the University of Phoenix. Throughout his career, Shawn has held several nursing leadership positions, including Director of Behavioral Health, Administrative Director of Emergency Services, Patient Care Director of ER/ICU/Geriatric Behavioral Health, and Nursing Supervisor at various hospitals in New York, New Hampshire, and Texas. Shawn also received his Nurse Executive, Advanced certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Julie Young, M.D., Medical Director
Dr. Young joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after serving as an outpatient psychiatrist with the BSW Department of Family Medicine in the Central Texas Region. Prior to that, Dr. Young was the medical director of psychiatric inpatient, outpatient, and consultation services at a regional medical center in New Mexico. She also provided outpatient psychiatric services within a primary care setting at the Veterans Administration in Northern California. Dr. Young earned her Doctor of Medicine from Dartmouth Medical School; and completed her general psychiatry internship and residency at the University of California School of Medicine. She earned her Masters of Science in Nutritional Sciences at California State University, Los Angeles, and practiced for several years as a Registered Dietitian prior to attending medical school. Dr. Young completed her Bachelors at the University of California at Los Angeles.
David A. Estringel, LCSW-S, BCD, C-ASWCM, CART, Director of Clinical Services
David joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after serving as Director of Clinical Services at Palms Behavioral Health in Harlingen, Texas. David earned his Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas and his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Texas at Brownsville. David brings extensive experience working with multiple client/patient populations, HIV/AIDS case management and program administration, substance abuse, crisis intervention, acute psychiatric care, medical social work, LGBT health and advocacy, and post-secondary education as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work with Our Lady of the Lake University’s Worden School of Social Services.
Heather Hill, MBA, CTRS, Director of Risk Management & Performance Improvement
Heather joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after serving as Director of Risk Management and Performance Improvement for Austin Lakes Hospital. Heather earned her Masters of Business Administration from Concordia University and her Bachelors in Recreation Administration in from Texas State University. Heather is a member of the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation. She is also a UHS Service Excellence and Verbal De-Escalation Instructor.
Belinda Richardson, Director of Human Resources
Belinda joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after working as a professional in Human Resources for the last 15 years and specializing in healthcare for the last 12 years. Belinda earned her Bachelors of Human Resources from Tarleton State University-Central Texas. She also holds a certification of Professional in Human Resources (PHR) accredited through Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). Belinda brings extensive experience employee relations, recruitment, performance management, and leadership development.
Raven Thousand, MS, LPC, Director of Admissions
Raven joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after serving as an Inpatient Bed Subject Matter Expert for the State of Texas and as a Director of Crisis Services for a Local Mental Health Authority. Raven earned her Bachelors in Psychology at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and her Masters in Clinical Mental Health and Counseling from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. Raven brings extensive experience working with crisis intervention, acute psychiatric care, and quality management.
Carlos Briones, Director of Plant Operations
Carlos joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after serving as Director of Plant Operations for Austin Lakes Hospital. Carlos earned his Bachelors in Respiratory Therapy from Southwest Texas State University. Carlos brings extensive experience in various healthcare departments including direct patient care, environment of care, patient access, business office, utilization review, and case management. Carlos will graduate with his MBA from Western Governors University in December 2021. Carlos is currently a member of the National Board for Respiratory Care and the American Association of Notaries.
McKinsey Ford, PharmD, Director of Pharmacy
McKinsey joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after serving as the Director of Pharmacy at Rock Prairie Behavioral Health in College Station, Texas. McKinsey earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Houston in Houston, Texas, and her Bachelors in Biomedical Science with a minor in Psychology from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
Elissia Hunt, Director of Health Information Management (HIM)
Elissia joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after over nine years of experience in health information management and over 12 years of experience in healthcare-related fields. Elissia earned her Bachelors in Health Information Management (HIM) from the University of Cincinnati. Elissia is also a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
Kathy Hilliard, Director of Business Office Services
Kathy joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after serving as the Charge Integrity Analyst II from 2018 to 2020. From 2015 to 2018, Kathy served as the Scott & White Health Plan Supervisor for Front Line Claim Processing. From 2009 to 2015, Kathy served as Ancillary Supervisor over Dialysis, Optical, Hospice/Home Health, CCH, SNF and Psych.
Sherry Stacey-Young, Director of Utilization Review
Sherry joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after serving as Director of Utilization of Austin Oaks Hospital in Austin, Texas, and Cedar Crest Hospital & RTC in Belton, Texas. Sherry earned her Bachelors in Biology from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, and her Masters in Psychology from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. While obtaining her Bachelors, she provided direct care in community group homes and Tucson Psychiatric Institute in Tucson, Arizona, before relocating to Texas. Sherry brings extensive experience with case management, acute psychiatric care, case management, and discharge planning.
Byron Landor, MBA, ACHE, Director of Business Development
Byron joined the Canyon Creek Behavioral Health team after serving as Associate Practice Administrator for Lone Star Circle of Care. Byron earned his Bachelors of Science from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and his Master of Business Administration from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. Byron will graduate with his Masters of Healthcare Administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Spring 2021. Byron is currently a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and the Institute of Industrial & System Engineers (IISE).
